Thai Food

So, I have a little questionaire for everyone.

  • What is your overall favorite place for Thai food?
  • Which is the best atmosphere?
  • Which is the best food?

I went to Thai Cuisine last night. It is on in the little old house on River Rd. in Keizer. I haven't been there for awhile and I had a pretty good experience. It's very quaint. I sort of felt like I was having dinner at my Thai grandmother's house. If I had a Thai grandmother, anyway.

The walls have a floral wallpaper on top with wood paneling below. It's carpeted so the noise level is low. The restaurant is cut up into different rooms, so each space only has three or four tables. All in all, I really like the atmosphere. Of course, there was the customary decor: ornate gold-trimmed frames around animal or landscape scenes, the good luck cat with his paw in the air, and the ever-present photographs of the rightful King and Queen of Thailand. But somehow I don't think I would really enjoy Thai food in the same way without these relics.

The Pad Thai and Mango Delight we shared were delicious. The mango dish was particularly yummy. The Pad Thai was just so-so. I like mine with a little spice and when I asked for mild, it came out REALLY mild. Like they might have forgotten it altogether. The Mango Delight so made up for it though, that I didn't really mind. We ended with a little Thai Tapioca for dessert. It was really tasty and warm, but I found that I didn't really have an appetite for too many of the chewy little balls of delicousness. I guess I can only handle gelatin substances in small doses.

I think I might give it a "Best Atmosphere" rating, although it would not come in first for food, in my opinion. Feel free to disagree with me in your comments though. I'm wondering where everyone else likes to go for Thai.

Sadly, the most memorable Thai I've had is in St. Paul.
Minnesota.

Not that I've tried a lot of Thai restaurants here. My hubby and I seem to jinx them. Each place we try is either so-so or too too sweet, then when we want to try it one more time the place is gone and we have to start all over again.

I'd love to see the rest of the comments that are posted here. And I promise to not to jinx these places. Maybe I'll order takeout under an alias.

N and I have one of those silly situations where we have this Thai restaurant in our past that we use as a measurement against all that have come after. Not really fair, since memory tends to put those places special to our hearts WAY up on a pedestal.
It was called Kuraya's and was located in Winston, OR. There was a feud in the family and the business was dissolved. Very sad - especially for us diners! ;>
As a result, we rarely eat Thai unless the place has been highly recommended.

I have enjoyed Thai Orchid in Liberty Plaza for many a lunch. It is close to work and the food is good. However, I have to say the service has been unpredictable in recent visits. We also really like Thai Beer by ShopKo on Lancaster. Very good food.

I think I'd be remiss if I didn't give a plug for Thai Beer!

Do you venture to Portland? If so, you must check out Pok Pok & the Whiskey Soda Lounge.

Wow, seems like everyone is looking for some great Thai. I do love Thai Beer and I have only tried Lanxang Lao Thai once. I don't get out there very often. I have also found Thai Orchid to be a little up and down in service and food. I am going to have to give Pok-pok a try. It looks very interesting!
